[July 02, 2012]  PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The Penguins on Sunday signed free-agent forward Tanner Glass to a two-year contract on the first day of NHL free agency.

Pittsburgh, with money to spend this offseason and eyes on bigger prizes later on, will pay Glass, 28, $1.1 million per season. The veteran had 246 hits and 51 blocked shots for Winnipeg last season, and will fill the hole created when Arron Asham signed with the Rangers earlier in the day.

"I was really fortunate in Winnipeg to play in some big situations. The penalty kill and other major responsibilities for me," Glass said. "I played against some of the top lines in the league on a nightly basis. I think those are great minutes, and you learn a lot in those minutes.

"It was just a privilege to have that much ice time last year, and I had a really good year."

The Penguins also signed forward Warren Peters, 29, and defenseman Dylan Reese, 27. Both were one-year, two-way contracts, worth $600,000 at the NHL level.
