[June 30, 2012]  ELKHART -- The Elkhart Historical Society's lecture season continues at the Wild Hare Café with a July 13 program on "The Last Farm Boy," Paul Beaver's popular memoir of life on the farm and in Logan County in the 1940s and '50's.

People attending can share a July farm supper with fried chicken, freshly picked produce and "mouthwatering pies" for dessert. Then listen to the author as he shares his entertaining, nostalgic and often humorous stories of life on the farm and in Logan County. The lecture will be enhanced with PowerPoint. His book was published in December 2011.

The evening will begin at 5:30. There is limited seating and the cost is $25.

The next dinner lecture in the series will be on Aug. 17, when Dennis Campbell, science professor at Lincoln College, presents "Elephants in Lincoln ... The Mammoth Discovery." Campbell is a master storyteller. The historical society says his lecture on bats in the fall of 2011 left the audience asking for more. This lecture will be evening entertainment for the "dog days of summer."

This event is also at the Wild Hare in Elkhart and begins at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person.

The organizers report that guests last year "enjoyed an unforgettable evening," described as "the perfect way to say goodbye to summer." The event is from 5 to 8 p.m., and tickets are $30 per person.

Reservations are being accepted for all these events. Call 217-947-2238 for reservations, then go to the website www.elkharthistoricalsociety.org to download a reservation form. Forms may also be picked up at Horsefeathers in Elkhart.
