In the last two weeks there have been approximately 30 incidents of
pavement failure on the state highway system due to high
temperatures, with several more occurring Friday afternoon. The
Illinois Department of Transportation is dispatching maintenance
crews to identify possible pavement blowouts and make the necessary
repairs.
While repairs typically are completed within a few hours,
pavement breaks can cause driving hazards that are impossible to
predict.
Motorists who encounter such hazards are advised to call local
police, 911 or 1-800-452–IDOT (4368).
