ARMINGTON -- Harold L. Billington, 92, of
Armington, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at 3:02 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in
Lincoln.

Armington – Harold L. Billington, 92, of Armington,
died on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at 3:02 p.m. at the
Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.
Funeral services for Mr. Billington will be held on
Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the
Armington Christian Church. Mr. Ed Loyd and Pastor
Joe Magnor will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the Armington Christian
Church on Friday, July 13, 2012, from 5:00 p.m.
until 8:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Stanford
with full military rites accorded by American Legion
Post 913.
Mr. Billington is survived by his wife, Mildred, of
Armington; his children: Dixie L. (James) Percival,
Sr. of Armington, Daniel L. (Bonnie) Billington of
Heyworth, Dennis D. Billington of Armington and
Delora J. (Rex) Griffin of Lincoln; one brother:
Merlin G. (Delores) Billington of Atlanta; nine
grandchildren: Derrick Percival, James Neal
Percival, Jr., Dionne Taylor, Crystal Norton, Keith
R. Billington, John Billington, Kelly Billington,
Jennifer Donovan and Erin Griffin; and four
step-grandchildren: James Gaddis, Ronald Gaddis,
Jeannia Griffin and Audie Rex Griffin, Jr.
Harold is further survived by 17
great-grandchildren: Veronica, Gabriel, Marissa,
Michael and Jacob Percival; Raymond Taylor; Jeffrey
Cluver; Kaitlin and Corey Norton; Janae Smith;
Shadow and Keith Billington; Amber Chambliss; Sophia
Billington, and Emily and Zachary Stamm; 14
step-great-grandchildren: Sheridan, Jeremyth, Casey,
Brandon, Chase, Tyler, Jonni, Audie John, Shae,
Dalton, Kirsten, Hannah, Alyson and Madison; one
great-great-grandchild, Trinity; and two
step-great-great-grandchildren: Kaelyn and Payton.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; one
brother: Howard Billington and two grandchildren:
Katherine A. Billington and Todd M. Billington.

Harold Leslie Billington was born on August 26,
1919, in Latham, Ill., the son of Cecil G. and Clara
L. Trago Billington. He married Mildred A. Hulvey in
Bloomington on Oct. 4, 1946. She survives.
Mr. Billington served our country in the U.S. Army
during WWII. As a member of the 60th Infantry,
Harold participated in the invasion of Africa in
Oct., 1942; invasion of Sicily in 1943, and the
invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge in
1944. He received a Silver Star medal, Good Conduct
Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon, European
African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 silver
and 1 bronze battle star and 5 overseas service
bars. Harold was the highest decorated WWII
serviceman in Armington.
Harold worked at Williams Oilomatic in Bloomington
and Billington Service Station in Armington from
1949 to 1959. He was a member of the Armington
Christian Church.
His family would like to thank Myrtle Goff, Virginia
Cox, and the staff at Maple Ridge for the many hours
of dedication in caring for Harold.
Memorials may be made to Armington Christian Church
or the Armington Fire and Rescue Squad.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
