Capt. Dean Allen Sanders, 76, a retired Salvation Army officer, died
Thursday morning, July 12, 2012, at his home in Lincoln.

LINCOLN-A celebration of Life will be held for
Captain Dean Allen Sanders on July 18, 2012 at the
Nazarene Church, 2501 Woodlawn Road, Lincoln, IL.
Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 pm to
1:45 pm and the Celebration will follow at 2:00 p.m.
Majors Roger and Cecilia Senn of The Salvation Army
in Grand Rapids, MI will officiate.
Memorial gifts may be made to either The Salvation
Army Keest Center in Lincoln, IL or The Salvation
Army in Decatur, IL or charity of donors choice

LINCOLN-Captain Dean Allen Sanders, 76, was promoted
to glory the morning of July 12, 2012 at his home in
Lincoln.
His wife, and two sons were with him.
He resided in Lincoln and is a retired Salvation
Army Officer.
Dean was born Feb. 7, 1936 in Lincoln, IL, the
second child of five born to Mildred (Jones) and
Wilbur Sanders.
As a child he met Salvation Army Captain David Amick
who invited him to Sunday School and that was the
beginning of his lifelong involvement with The
Salvation Army and of his conversion to Jesus Christ
as His Lord and Savior.

He married Bonnie Lane, July 3, 1959 in Cheyenne,
Wyoming. They became the parents of three children.
They raised their family in Lincoln and were
soldiers within The Salvation Army in Lincoln until
1985 at which time Dean and his wife, Bonnie, left
to go to Michigan to take charge of The Salvation
Army Operations in Ludington, MI. They commanded
four Salvation Army Corps during their time in
Michigan. Ludington, Alma, Cadillac and Traverse
City before retiring back to Lincoln.
After their retirement they were called upon to head
up The Salvation Army operations at The Salvation Army Service Extension in
Lincoln. The Keest Center was constructed during their time of responsibility
for the work of The Salvation Army here in Lincoln.
Before Dean became a full time Officer within The Salvation
Army, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed at
Schofield Barracks Base in Hawaii and upon his return home
worked for a period of time at Stetson's, the Box Factory,
and then at Cutler & Hammer.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, sons, Anthony of
Lincoln, Timothy of Lincoln and daughter Jeane
(Anthony) Davis of Germany. Seven grandchildren:
Ryan, Alex, Stasha, Aleeza, Sheyna, Quarry and
Alicia. Plus one great grandson, Brenan. Four
siblings: Marshall Sanders, David (Jenette) Sanders;
Rosemary Awe, and Robert (Sandra) Sanders. He was
preceded in death by his parents.
Per his wish he will be cremated. A time for a
celebration of life will be announced at a later
date. Arrangements are being handled by
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
