Temperature: High
temperatures will climb into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees
both today and Wednesday. These very high temperatures combined with
moderately high relative humidity values will create heat index
readings of around 105 degrees.
Effects: The effects of heat are cumulative and worsen with
increased time outside. Prolonged exposure to the heat may quickly
result in heat exhaustion or heatstroke, especially if your body is
working hard.
Precautionary, preparedness actions:
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and drink
plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an
emergency; call 911.
A heat advisory means that a period of high temperatures is
expected. The combination of high and high humidity will create a
situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of
fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and
check up on relatives and neighbors.
