Expect showers, periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms to form along and ahead of this frontal boundary as it meets with hot and humid conditions, while a cooling trend begins in
upper New England. Meanwhile, a frontal system will stall across the Ohio and
mid-Mississippi Valleys with rain and thunderstorms. Areas from eastern Illinois into Ohio and Kentucky are at slight risk of severe thunderstorm development with damaging wind and hail events.
To the south, hot and humid conditions will maintain areas of generally scattered showers and thunderstorms in the southeastern quadrant of the nation, while moisture streaming in from the gulf of Mexico kicks up showers and thunderstorms in southwestern Texas and the
southern Rockies.
Finally, a few showers are possible near the southern California coast, while chances of showers persist in the Northwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a morning low of 37 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 107 degrees at Maryland Science Center, Md.
