Man in hepatitis C case says 'fabricated' life

[July 20, 2012]  CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- A traveling hospital technician accused of infecting 30 people with hepatitis C in New Hampshire -- and possibly in six other states -- told investigators he "lied to a lot of people" and "fabricated" his life.

David Kwiatkowski (kwit-COW'ski), a former technician at Exeter Hospital, was arrested Thursday.

An FBI affidavit says Kwiatkowsi told police he first became aware of his own hepatitis C diagnosis in May. When asked how patients at Exeter contracted it, he said, "You know, I'm more concerned about myself, my own well-being."

Investigators believe he stole syringes containing an anesthetic and injected himself with them. They said he put another liquid into the syringes, later used for patients.

He denied taking or using drugs and said a syringe found in his vehicle wasn't his.
