 Since moving into the Congregate Building at
The Christian Village
in 1985, Cusey walked across the street Monday through Friday (and
often on Saturday), to fold linens in the laundry room. One of her
goals in living there was to be of service to older adults.At the
recognition of her service this week, employees of Safe Haven
Hospice wheeled Cusey into the Christian Nursing Home, where she was
celebrated by a gauntlet of congratulating volunteers who had come
from Bloomington for their monthly day of service at the nursing
home.
After reflecting on Cusey's long and faithful service, Christian
Homes Chaplain Ryan Edgecombe hung the plaque at the entrance to the
newly equipped and remodeled laundry facility.
"Not many people move to a retirement home with one of their main
motivations being to volunteer more than just once a month,"
Edgecombe said. "Mary is a dear friend and very special to us.
Others can be inspired by this faithful woman of God."
Cusey commented: "I don't need a plaque. It's just an honor to be
able to serve."
