Entry deadline approaching for state fair photo and talent contests

[July 26, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- The 2012 Illinois State Fair is quickly approaching, as is the deadline for contest entries of baby photos, dog photos and amateur talent.

Pictures and entries must be delivered or postmarked by Aug. 1. All entry forms are available in the special events office in the Emmerson Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds or online at illinoisstatefair.info

Fairgoers wishing to enter the baby or dog photo contests should firmly attach a 5-by-7-inch photo to a 7-by-9-inch white poster board. Photos will not be accepted in any other form and must have been taken within the last six months.

All baby photo entries will be displayed during the fair in the Kids Korner area, south of the Emmerson Building.

Dog photos will be judged in either of two categories but not both: cutest dog or craziest dog costume. Only one entry per category per dog is allowed, and judging will be based on personality and appeal.

The talent competition includes five categories: female vocal solo, on Aug. 10 at 5 p.m.; group vocal, male vocal solo and keyboard-instrumental, on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m.; and dance solo and dance group, on Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. All contests will take place in the Illinois Building theater.

No act should run more than four minutes. A contestant may enter only one category. The first- and second-place winners from each category will be invited back to demonstrate their talent at the Talent Showcase on Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Illinois Building.
