[June 07, 2012]  HOMEWOOD -- The Illinois Women's Golf Association will host its 79th annual Illinois Women's Golf Championship June 12-15 at Ravisloe Country Club in Homewood.

Contestants will play on the 5,568-yard, par-70 course originally designed by Theodore Moreau and James Foulis in 1901. Several renovations have occurred since the original layout. Most recently, in 2001, David Esler, restored the course features, consistent with the intentions of Donald Ross, an earlier renovator.

This year's field will include previous IWGA junior tournament winners Michelle Mayer of Flossmoor and Katherine Hepler of Lincoln, along with former IWGA multiple senior state amateur champions Salley Wessels of Mount Morris and Jackie Schwarz and Char McLear, both from McHenry.

The tournament format is match play with flights determined by an 18-hole qualifying round on June 12. The championship flight will be comprised of 32 players, with remaining flights comprised of eight players each. Trophies will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament.
