Lincoln Church of the Nazarene
to host 'Parents Night Out'
The Lincoln Church of the Nazarene will host a "Parents Night Out," with
three sessions available the last weekend in June.
The event will give parents an
opportunity to enjoy three hours out at any place of their
choosing.
Meanwhile, children ages 4-10 are invited to the
church, which will be transformed into the Starlight Space
Center, where they will enjoy a "Galactic Adventure with God" and
will be entered in a drawing for a new bike. There will be food,
activities and fun at no cost to the parents.
The church hopes to give the first 10 couples who sign up a gift
certificate to one of the local restaurants.
The dates and times are Thursday and Friday, June 28 and 29,
5:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 30, from noon until 3 p.m.

ZLS May Students of the Month
Claire Conrady and Sydney Johnson, seventh-graders at Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln, have been
selected as the Zion Lutheran School May Students of the Month.
Sydney has been an honor roll student,
and her ZLS activities have included basketball, volleyball, track,
band, choir and speech team.
Sydney attends Faith Lutheran Church. Her church and community
activities have included Sunday school, trapshooting, bow and arrow,
swimming, and softball. Sydney's favorite activities are playing
volleyball and reading.
Her parents are Kim and Lisa
Johnson of Lincoln.
Claire has been an honor roll student
and her ZLS activities have included band, choir chimes, choir,
speech team, volleyball and track.
Claire attends Faith Lutheran
Church. Her church and community activities have included Girl
Scouts, dance, Lincoln Extreme club volleyball and piano.
Claire most enjoys clog and tap
dancing.

Logan County Relay for Life fundraiser
Saturday, June 9, from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. there will be a Relay for Life garage sale at 329 Decatur St.
All of the proceeds will be donated to Relay for
Life.
Sam Opperman achieves rank of Eagle Scout
Sam Opperman, a junior at Lincoln Community High School, has
achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with Lincoln Boy Scout Troop 1102.
He was honored at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor May 12 at Zion
Lutheran Church.
Scoutmaster Robert Cox presented Sam with his Eagle Badge, and
Cpl. James Harnacke of the Marine Corps League presented him with
the Good Citizenship Award during the Court of Honor.
Sam joined the Scouting program in first grade as a Tiger Cub. He
continued in Cub Scouts, then Boy Scouts, where he earned 45 merit
badges on his way to Eagle Scout.
Sam completed his Eagle service project at Zion Lutheran School.
Through the generosity of the members of Zion Lutheran Church,
school and the Lincoln community, Sam led his troop in landscaping
the entrance to the school, assembling and mounting two heavy-gauge
steel benches, and mounting a cross salvaged during the renovation
of Zion Lutheran Church. The troop also mounted two outdoor
basketball poles, backboards and hoops.
Sam has participated in the National Youth Leadership training at
Ingersoll Scout Reservation, served in numerous leadership roles for
his troop, backpacked through the mountains of the Philmont Scout
Ranch in New Mexico and the mountains of the Ben Delatour Scout
Ranch in Colorado. He has also walked from New Salem to Springfield
six times with his troop during the Lincoln Pilgrimage. He also
received the Order of the Arrow, reaching Brotherhood designation.
Samuel is the son of David and Stephanie Opperman of Lincoln. His
grandparents are Ruth Opperman and the late George V. Opperman of
Lincoln and Bobetta Kolbus and the late Raymond Kolbus of Normal.
Benefit for Leanne Arnold this
weekend
There will be a benefit for Leanne Payne Arnold on Friday and Saturday at
TT's Place, 210 W. Main St. in Easton, to help toward medical expenses for
her treatment. Leanne is the daughter of the late Howard and Maggie Payne
and grew up in the Hartsburg area. Leanne was diagnosed with stage IIIC
breast cancer last November and has been undergoing both chemo treatments
and a series of radiation treatments since then.
On Friday, there will be a benefit
dinner from 5 to 10 p.m.
On Saturday, there will be an all-day
benefit beginning at 11 a.m., including a poker run, bake sale,
silent auction, 50-50 drawing, raffle and concessions. The All the
Rage band will play beginning at 7 p.m.
A portion of funds raised will be matched by the Mason County
Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Lincoln College to host
basketball camp for girls
Lincoln College will host a
basketball camp June 25-28 for girls in first to eighth grade. Sessions will
be in the Jack Nutt Arena in the Lincoln Center.
The camp will focus on fundamental
skill development.
Girls in
first to fourth grade will attend from 10 a.m. to noon, and girls in
fifth to eighth grade will go from 1 until 3 p.m.
The camp is $40 per person and $20
for additional siblings. Forms are available in the Lincoln Center
if needed.
