manager of the Springfield office. "For those who prefer to avoid
the wait and travel associated with visiting an office, almost all
Social Security business may be conducted by visiting our
award-winning website at
www.socialsecurity.gov," added Bartels. "From the convenience of
their own homes, people can apply for benefits, sign up for direct
deposit, replace a Medicare card, obtain a proof-of-income letter or
inform us of a change of address or telephone number."
Assistance is also available through the Social Security
Administration’s toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213 (or TTY
1-800-325-0778), from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can access recorded
information and many automated services 24 hours a day -- including
weekends and holidays.
