Illinois State earns NIT bid, faces Ole Miss

NORMAL -- For the fourth time in
five seasons, all under head coach Tim Jankovich, Illinois State has
earned a spot in the National Invitation Tournament and will open
the first round at Ole Miss on Wednesday for an 8:30 p.m. tip on a
game nationally televised by ESPNU.

 The Redbirds, who own a 20-13 record on the season, enter the
tournament as a No. 7 seed, while Ole Miss holds a No. 2 seed after
posting an equal 20-13 mark. The last time ISU made four postseason
bids over a five-year span was in 1994-95 (NIT), 1995-96 (NIT),
1996-97 (NCAA) and 1997-98 (NCAA).This marks Illinois State's
12th appearance in the NIT, and the Redbirds own an 8-11 mark
all-time in the event.
This will mark the third meeting between the Redbirds and the
Rebels, with ISU winning the previous two games. Illinois State
posted a 70-52 win at the BCA Classic in Milwaukee, Wis., on Nov.
16, 2004, and a 76-72 victory at Horton Field House on Dec. 23,
1978. The game at Horton Field House was referenced in Michael
Lewis' book, "The Blind Side."

The winner of the ISU-Ole Miss game will advance to face the
winner of the Stanford-Cleveland State matchup.
