Eleanor Lanterman

[March 14, 2012]  ELKHART -- Eleanor A. Lanterman, 84, of Elkhart, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at 9:50 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Lincoln – Eleanor A. Lanterman, 84, of Elkhart, passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Lanterman will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart. Rev. Glenn Fontana will officiate.

Visitation will be held at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln on Thursday, March 15, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will precede the visitation at 4:45 p.m.

Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery at a later date.

Eleanor is survived by her children: Michael Scott Lanterman of Springfield and Kristin McCray of Henderson, Nev.; one grandson: Jason McCray; two great-grandsons: Jarrett McCray and Jason Andrew McCray; two sisters: Mary Katherine Moats of Caseyville, Ill., and Karen Marie (Richard) Gleason of Elkhart.

Mrs. Lanterman was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, and one son, Richard Leslie Lanterman.

 

Funeral Director

Eleanor Ann Svenson was born in Lincoln, on March 29, 1927, the daughter of Hugo Leslie and Ellen Agnes Malerich Svenson. She married Howard Lanterman on February 15, 1947. He preceded her in death.

Eleanor held the distinction of serving as the first female mayor of Elkhart and served in that capacity for two terms. She retired from the Logan County ASCS office after 30 years of employment. She was a regular volunteer with the Elkhart Homecoming and High School reunion committees. Mrs. Lanterman was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart.
