 This was the same storm that brought several feet of new snow to the Sierra Nevadas over the weekend. As it moves into the Plains, it will pull Gulf of Mexico moisture northward into the area. This moisture will produce areas of heavy rain along with strong thunderstorms from eastern Texas through Minnesota. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe in nature; thus, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight chance of severe weather from eastern Texas through Iowa. Residents in this area should prepare for the possibility of severe weather and monitor local weather conditions.
In the West, the heart of a major storm will move from Montana into Canada. This storm will produce widespread snow in the state, and thus
winter storm warnings have been posted due to the possibility of up to 2 feet of new snow. This storm will also produce strong winds up to 25 mph that will cause blizzard conditions.
Showers and thunderstorms will diminish along the West Coast after a very wet weekend. Al in all, this will translate to a wild weather day for the country from the West Coast through the Plains.
This will be in contrast to the weather in the East, as a high pressure system will keep mostly dry conditions along the
Eastern Seaboard. The one exception to this will be scattered showers and thunderstorms from the Ohio Valley through the Mid-Atlantic.
The Northeast will rise into the 70s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The Plains will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a morning low of 16 degrees at Eureka, Nev., to a high of 87 degrees at Sarasota, Fla.
