Chapman took at job in what is now the acute care unit right after
finishing nursing school 22 years ago. She went to nursing school in
Decatur after her four children had grown. With the exception of
five years working day shifts, she has worked nights in acute care
her entire career. Sandy and her husband, Bill, have five
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and she'll enjoy more
time with them when she retires.
"I've got a lot of things I like to do," she said. "I like to
work in the garden, and I have crafts I enjoy doing."
Sandy also quilts and crochets, and she plans to travel more in
retirement.
There will be a retirement celebration in her honor at ALMH from
2 to 4 p.m. Friday in the Steinfort Rooms. Former co-workers of
Sandy's are invited to attend.
ALMH employs 290 in a variety of roles. The hospital is located
at 200 Stahlhut Drive and is an affiliate of Memorial Health System.
