Casting revealed for John Patrick Shanley play

[March 31, 2012]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Giancarlo Esposito will star in the final piece in John Patrick Shanley's "Church and State" trilogy of plays has been revealed.

Producers said Friday that Esposito, Bob Dishy, Zach Grenier, Ron Cephas Jones and Tonya Pinkins will star in "Storefront Church," which begins previews May 16 off-Broadway.

Esposito, the "Breaking Bad" star who has been on Broadway in the recent revival of Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," will play a fictional Bronx Borough President who is forced by the mortgage crisis into a confrontation with a local minister, played by Jones. Shanley will direct.

The play will officially open June 11 and play a limited engagement at Atlantic Theater Company's main stage through June 24. Previous plays in Shanley's trilogy include "Doubt" and "Defiance."
