County appointments, monthly department figures and road projects

[May 04, 2012]  In April the Logan County Board unanimously approved appointments with 11 members present: Andy Anderson, Rick Aylesworth, Kevin Bateman, Terry Carlton, Bob Farmer, David Hepler, Bill Martin, Pat O'Neill, Gene Rohlfs, Chuck Ruben and Jan Schumacher. Andrew Meister was absent.

Appointments

Fire district appointments:

  • Atlanta -- Dennis W. Smith

  • Latham -- Dale Taylor

  • Emden -- Jim Boerma

  • Middletown -- Troy Sanderfield

  • Elkhart -- Roger Bock

  • New Holland -- Edwin E. Davison

  • Hartsburg -- Mike Rohlfs

  • Beason -- Jim Brown

  • Lincoln Rural -- Tom Irwin

All fire and water district terms expire May 1, 2015.

Water district appointments:

  • Beason-Chestnut -- John Allen and Dan Rusk

  • Northern Logan County Water Authority -- Richard McKown

In March, with 11 members present and Terry Carlton absent, the board approved the following appointments:

  • Logan County Board of Health -- Bill Sahs

  • Logan County Regional Planning Commission -- Dean Sasse

  • Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County -- Andrea Halley

  • Logan County ETSB Board -- Randy Conklen, Jim Hubrich and Steven G. Nichols

Animal control:

  • Under a new amendment to a county ordinance, the board approved Julie Parker as animals animal control administrator and also reappointed her as warden. Previously the administrator was a veterinarian. The change saves county tax dollars.

  • Maurice Tierney was reappointed as assistant animal control warden.

Department financial reports for March

  • Sheriff's report of fees collected -- $2,138.44

  • Clerk of the circuit court's report -- collections due to the county's general fund, $100,538.53; collection of funds due to others, $60,423.59; child support, $45,823.72

  • County clerk and recorder's fees collected -- $37,758.50

  • Logan County treasurer's cash statement -- March revenue, $1,673,433.19; March expenses, ($1,675,624.56); March balance: $1,004,989.88

  • Hotel-motel tax at 4 percent, $10,435.27; special use hotel-motel tax at 1 percent, $2,609.01

Road and bridge projects

The board approved several road and bridge projects for the 2012 season. Some of these will be joint county-township projects.

  • A bridge replacement on 2250th Street (Lazy Row bridge), using township bridge program and county bridge funds.

  • Bridge resurfacing of the County Highway 20 bridge over Sugar Creek, using county bridge funds.

  • Microsurfacing project involving pavement preservation treatment on County Highway 25 north of Atlanta, using county motor fuel tax funds.

  • Recycling County Highway 1 south of Mount Pulaski with a soil-cement base course and hot-mix asphalt surfacing, using county motor fuel tax funds.

  • Construction of Section 06-00117-00-WR, County Highway 1. This project was originally approved in 2008, but then the state made other plans.

  • County aid request from the county bridge fund to jointly repair a bridge on 1800th Avenue in Aetna and Chester townships.

  • County aid request from county bridge fund to jointly repair a bridge in Laenna Township on 800th Street.

Also in the works is the design of a replacement bridge south of Lake Fork for Mount Pulaski Township.
