            		LINCOLN -- Marion W. "Doc," Henderson, 
			89, of Lincoln, died at home on Friday, May 4, 2012. 
							(Below is the obituary from the funeral home.)

										Marion W. "Doc" Henderson, 89, of 
										Lincoln, passed away  May 4, 2012 at 
										home surrounded by his family.  
										 
										Visitation will be  Sunday, May 6, 
										2012 from 4-7 PM at Henderson Hall 
										on the campus of Lincoln  Christian 
										University. Funeral services will be  10 
										AM Monday, May 7, 2012 at Lincoln 
										Christian Church. Burial will follow at 
										Zion Cemetery In Lincoln.
										 
										Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in 
										Lincoln is handling arrangements.
										 
										Marion was born December 22, 1922 in 
										Sorrento, IL. the son of Charles and 
										Henrietta (Wright) Henderson.  He 
										married Vera Martin, his high school 
										sweetheart, from Mulberry Grove, IL on 
										March 28, 1943.  She preceded him in 
										death on April 16, 2009. He served as 
										an Army Medical Corpsman during WW II. 
										 Marion graduated from Lincoln Bible 
										Institute and Greenville College and 
										then went on to earn his PHD from 
										Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 
										Louisville, KY. 
										He was a New Testament professor at 
										Lincoln Bible Institute and then Lincoln 
										Christian College from 1951-1976.  He 
										then moved to Florida Christian College 
										where he served as a New Testament 
										professor and then College President 
										from 1976-1986.  Mr. Henderson then 
										retired from Lincoln Christian College 
										where he served as a New Testament 
										Professor, Special Assistant to the 
										President, men's basketball and baseball 
										coach for over 20 years, and Athletic 
										Director.

							His preaching ministries 
							included Chandlerville, Scottsburg, Indiana, and 
							South Fork Church of Christ near Rochester, IL. 
					Surviving are his three 
					daughters:  Jane Vincent of Lincoln, Il.; Jill Thornton 
					(Don) of Auburn, Il.; and Judy Givan (Todd) of Lincoln, Il., 
					six grandchildren:  Chad Givan (Liliana) of Springfield, IL; 
					Kallie Truelove (Beau) of Ridgefarm, IL; Clint Thornton of 
					Springfield, IL; Dusty Givan (Devlyn) of Shelbyville, KY; 
					Cole Thornton (Megan) of Springfield, IL.; and Kade Vincent 
					(Katie) serving in the USAF; great grandchildren:  Kandon, 
					Karson, Kalvin, and Kristian Truelove; Maria Givan; Jackson 
					Thornton; and Michael Givan; sisters:  Marie Yates of 
					Greenville, IL; Myrna Beesley of Taylor, MI.; and Melba Bone 
					of Florissant, MO; also surviving is special family friend 
					and caregiver Paula Parrett. 
					Memorial donations may be made 
					to Memorial Home Hospice or to the family to establish a 
					scholarship fund for preaching ministry students.  |
