Burgandy D. Henderson, currently

recipient of the 2012 Zonta International, Zonta Club of Lincoln,
Young Women in Public Affairs Award.

The goal of the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs
program is to encourage more young women to participate in public
affairs by recognizing a young woman, age 16-19, for commitment to
the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements
and dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to
their school and their community and the problems limiting the
advancement of the status of women in their own country and
worldwide. The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs
program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of
tomorrow.
Ms. Henderson was named Zonta International, Zonta Club of
Lincoln, Young Women in Public Affairs recipient because or her high
academic standing, leadership and many volunteer activities in the
community. She intends to pursue a degree in speech pathology. She
believes women should not be afraid to let their voices be heard,
and to take measures to change representation in Congress to a 1-1
ratio.
Zonta Club of Lincoln funds the scholarship program with the help
of Lincoln and Logan County through the sale of tickets to the
club's annual turkey dinner.
