[September 29, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- The following preliminary information on an incident on U.S. 136 near Emden was released by Illinois State Police District 9 at 9:48 p.m. Friday:

What: Semitrailer lost load

Where: U.S. 136 at 600th Avenue, Logan County

When: Friday, Sept. 28, 8:15 p.m.

Preliminary: A green truck tractor with dump-style trailer operated by Mason County Transfer out of Mason City was traveling westbound on U.S. 136, approaching the railroad tracks near Emden. The railroad crossing warning lights activated, causing the driver to slam on his brakes in order to stop for an oncoming train. The hard braking caused the load in the dump trailer, meat scraps and trimmings, to slide forward and spill onto the roadway. A major quantity of the load spilled onto U.S. 136, causing the roadway to be shut down while the debris was removed.

Logan County Sheriff’s Department assisted on the scene.
