            		ELKHART -- Joseph M. Buttell, 87, of 
			Elkhart, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at 1:55 a.m. at St. John's 
			Hospice in Springfield.

							Elkhart - Joseph M. Buttell, 87, of Elkhart, passed 
							away on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1:55 a.m. at 
							St. John's Hospice in Springfield. 
					
							A Mass of Christian Burial Service will be held on 
							Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. 
							Patrick's Church in Elkhart with Rev. Simon Taabu 
							officiating. 
					
							Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 
							from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peasley 
							Funeral Home in Lincoln. A Rosary Service will be 
							held at 3:45 p.m. prior to the visitation. 
					
							Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lincoln 
							with full military rites performed by Elkhart 
							American Legion Post #616. 
					
							Joseph Maurice Buttell, son of Joseph Lawrence and 
							Mary Ellen "Mayme" Dee Buttell, was born on August 
							11, 1925 in Lincoln. He married Beverly June Dial on 
							January 2, 1954 at St. Patrick's Church in Lincoln. 
							She survives. 
					
							Also surviving are his children: Joseph Mark 
							(Brooke) Buttell of Lincoln, Nancy Yvonne (Tom) 
							Davis of Elkhart, and Julie Ann (Todd) Dumstorf of 
							Arlington Heights; ten grandchildren: Sara McNeeley, 
							Jenny (Adam) Greenblatt, Nick Davis, Casey Davis, 
							Mark (Cyra) Buttell, Betsy Buttell Landes, Mallory 
							Davis, Evan Dumstorf, Tori Dumstorf and Molly 
							Buttell; and four great granddaughters: Harper, 
							Piper, Carlie and Scarlett. 
					
							He was preceded in death by his parents.

							Joe graduated from Elkhart High School in 1943 and 
							then served in the United States Army during the 
							Korean War. Upon returning to Logan County, he 
							continued farming several hundred acres with his 
							father and cousin in the Elkhart and surrounding 
							area. Joe’s favorite hobby was camping. For over 45 
							years, Joe enjoyed traveling the country camping 
							with his family and other friends and their 
							children. Joe was notorious for his sweet tooth, and 
							during his later years his children and 
							grandchildren made sure to sneak him the occasional 
							treat.  
					
							He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Elkhart 
							and the Knights of Columbus Council # 1250. He was 
							also a member of the American Legion Post #616 in 
							Elkhart and Lincoln Elks Lodge #914. Additionally, 
							he served on the Logan County Farm Bureau Board and 
							the FS Board for many years.  
					
							Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Church in 
							Elkhart or to Bridges of Promise.
