On Saturday, Anytime Fitness and
the Humane Society of Logan County hosted their first-ever "Woofstock"
event at Kickapoo Creek Park.
The weather was perfect for a brisk walk in the park, with sunny
skies and cool temperatures.
The day was designed for dog lovers to bring
their pets out to the park and just have a great time walking in the
woods, visiting with other dogs and dog owners, participating in pet-friendly activities and of course having a bite to eat.
Ellen Burbage, president of the Humane Society
of Logan County,
said it was a very successful day, and she couldn't have been
happier to see so many turn out.
She said all the credit for the idea goes to
Josh Slightom of Anytime Fitness. Slightom loves animals, Burbage said, and wants people to get out and exercise. Putting
the two together for the Woofstock event seemed like a good way to
encourage people to exercise and at the same time do something good
for the HSLC. Throughout the two locations where
vendors were set up, there were donation boxes for the society.
In addition there was a silent auction with
some really great items donated by local retailers, with all those
proceeds going to the society.
Burbage said with the great turnout they had
this year, she is hoping that this will become an annual event to
help support the organization.
At the main pavilion of the park, the Logan
County Department of Public Health was on hand doing blood pressure
checks and offering information on health department programs.
The Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois was also at
that location offering information about Head Start and Early Head
Start programs in Lincoln and Logan County.
At the picnic area on the southwest corner of
the park, there were activities for kids and pets, vendors with
products for pets and people, and Crime Stoppers was there as well.
The Humane Society of Logan County also had their table set up
selling their sweats, T-shirts and other HSLC items.
