[October 12, 2012]  McLEAN -- Sugar Grove Nature Center in Funks Grove will host its annual Autumn Celebration on Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors can go to the pumpkin patch and choose their favorite to take home and carve, or stop by and decorate it at the pumpkin salon. They can also enjoy fall color walks, a scarecrow factory and entertainment with an autumn theme. For children, there will be old-fashioned fun like bobbing for apples and pumpkin bowling. Also step back in time to visit a 1750s trading post and frontiersman's camp and meet other historical re-enactors.

Live music by The Indras will be on stage from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as they kick out raw, over-the-top rock 'n' roll, rockabilly and R&B. The Emerald Underground returns again this year with their presentation of beautiful, upbeat Celtic fusion from 2 to 5 p.m.

Booths will feature handmade, nature-inspired items. The Illinois Valley Blacksmiths and Central Illinois Woodturners will demonstrate their skills.

Visitors can also tour the Sugar Grove Observatory and explore more than five miles of hiking trails on an autumn day.

Seasonal favorites like apple cider and caramel apples will be available, as well as roasting marshmallows at the campfire.
