[October 25, 2012]  SINGAPORE (AP) -- Singapore Airlines has ordered 25 Airbus planes worth $7.5 billion including five superjumbo A380s. It also said it will cease nonstop flights to Los Angeles and New York.

The airline said Wednesday the planes which include 20 A350 jets will be delivered from 2017 and show its confidence in demand for full-service air travel. It already flies 19 superjumbos and has an existing order for 20 A350s which will be delivered from 2015.

Airbus has agreed to buy five A340-500 jets from Singapore Air, which will be removed from its fleet in late 2013.

That will end of nonstop flights from Singapore to Los Angeles and Newark. The airline said its use of A380 planes has allowed it to increase capacity on routes that stopover in Frankfurt and Tokyo.
