Sudan: Iran not linked to arms factory

[October 30, 2012]  KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) -- Sudan says that Iran has no link to the military factory that it says was hit in an Israeli airstrike.

Israel has not confirmed or denied involvement in last week's explosion at the factory, which destroyed much of the complex and killed four people in the Sudanese capital. But Israeli officials have claimed that Sudan is playing a key role in an Iranian-backed network of arms shipments to hostile Arab militant groups.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry accused Israel of leaking "misleading information" about Iranian support for weapons production at the Yarmouk factory.

It said in a statement late Monday that "Iran does not need to manufacture weapons in Sudan, be it for itself of for its allies."
