The event is open to the public. Two Springfield Clinic
urologists, Thomas Baron, M.D., and David Lieber, M.D., will lead a
discussion about understanding prostate cancer, the most common
non-skin cancer in men in the United States. More than 241,000 men
will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year and more than
28,000 will die, according to the
National
Cancer Institute.
Those attending will learn about screening, diagnosis and
treatment options for prostate cancer, including the da Vinci
robotic surgical system.
Free prostate cancer screenings, which involve taking a blood
sample, will be offered. The American Urological Association
recommends that men over 40 should talk with their doctors about the
decision to get a prostate screening exam, including a blood test
and a physical exam of the prostate.
Light refreshments will be served.
The event will conclude at 7:30 p.m.
