Wilbur 'Wil' Ball

[September 10, 2012]  VIERA, Fla. -- Wilbur "Wil" Fiske Ball, 78, of Viera, Fla., formerly of Atlanta, Ill., and retired from the Coast Guard, died Saturday, Sept. 1, at Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care in Rockledge, Fla.

Wilbur "Wil" Fiske Ball, USCG CWO4 (ret.) 78, of Viera, FL died Saturday, September 1st at Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care in Rockledge, FL. He was born May 26, 1934 at Hale Hospital in Haverhill, MA. He was the son of the late Wilbur Fiske and Beatrice Emma (George) Ball of Haverhill. He was the youngest of 5 children. Wilbur attended Haverhill schools and graduated Haverhill High School in 1952. After graduation Wil enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard of which he served for 27 years before retiring in 1980. After retiring from the Coast Guard he went on to live and work in several areas of the country, before finally retiring to Viera, FL with his wife.

He is predeceased in death by his parents, half-brother Russell (Helen Currier) Ball, half-sister "Winnie" (Charles Lancaster) and brother Raymond (Jean Moody) Ball.

He is survived by his devoted wife Debra "Debbie" K. (Smith) Ball, formerly of Atlanta; sister Phyllis Ann (John G.) Williams of Haverhill, MA. His four children: son Thomas Ball of Duncan, OK; daughter Susan (Thomas Lucas) of Bremen, GA; daughter Cherryl Ball (Kirk Wallbillich) Frisco, TX; son David (Michelle Clement) of Niceville, FL; and his step-daughter Krista Smith of Bloomington, IL; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will be missed by numerous extended family and friends.

Funeral Director

Memorial services were held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 07, 2012 at the Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, 5400 Village Dr., Viera, FL 32955 with Pastor Jeff Wood officiating. Wil will be entered into his eternal resting place with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C., in the spring of 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care, Rockledge, FL 32955.
