Saturday was a perfect day for an egg hunt at
the Lincoln Park District. With temperatures soaring into the
high 40s by early morning, kids turned out in droves for the annual
event, which promised plenty of candy plus some special prizes.
The event, which takes place on the putting
greens, is really more of a "scoop 'em up" than a hunt, as hundreds of
eggs were scattered in age-specific sections.
The littlest kids were allowed to have help
from their parents, while the older groups had to go it alone.
And the older the kid, the harder he or she
had to work to get a basket full. For the young ones, eggs were
scattered in a smaller space, but with each change in the age bracket,
the kids had to run a little farther and a little more to get their
baskets filled. The oldest group had to work the hardest, with eggs
being scattered across the entire length of the putting green.
Because of that, some had to think about their
strategy for optimum gathering. As a result many started their
hunt with a race to the end, where they hoped to gather up all the
eggs while others started picking up immediately and working their
way toward the end.
The bottom line, though, is that by the end of
the day, every kid at the hunt had dozens and dozens of eggs, filled
with candy and little notes for prizes that could be claimed at the
clubhouse.
