LA Times exec promoted to Tribune Co. position

[April 03, 2013]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles Times executive Kathy Thomson has been named chief operating officer of the Tribune Co.'s publishing division.

Thomson currently is the newspaper's president and chief operating officer.

The Times says (http://lat.ms/12bdpZK) in the newly created Tribune position she will oversee efforts to expand digital products and the use of video at eight daily papers, including the Times, the Chicago Tribune and the Baltimore Sun.

Thomson will retain her current Times responsibilities and she will be based in Los Angeles.
