Natural gas prices have been rising quickly in recent months as cold weather blanketed the country through March and into early April. Half of U.S. homes use natural gas for heating. Natural gas rose 4.6 percent Friday to close at $4.13 per thousand cubic feet. That's the highest close for natural gas since August 2011. The price has doubled since last year at this time, when the nation was emerging from the warmest winter on record. In other energy futures trading on the Nymex: Heating oil fell 5 cents to close at $2.91 per gallon. Wholesale gasoline fell 4 cents to close at $2.86 per gallon.
