Mary M. Spellman, 85, of Keokuk, IA, died at 5:00
AM, Friday, April 19, 2013 at River Hills Village in
Keokuk, IA.
Mary was born January 6, 1928, in Keokuk, Iowa, the
daughter of George A. and Vernie Lou Allen Protsman.
She married Olen (Ducky) Spellman on November 2,
1945; he preceded her in death on November 7, 1988.
She lived most of her life in the Keokuk area. She
was a former member of Alexandria Baptist Church,
Bel Air Baptist and later Lincoln Christian Church,
Lincoln, Illinois. While living in Lincoln, IL she
was a foster grandparent with the Oddfellows
Preschool. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and
especially talking about her grandchildren.
She is survived by two children, Benjamin A.
(Vickie) Spellman of Atlanta, IL, and Dianna (John)
Monical of Keokuk, IA.; four grandchildren, Tesha
(Tim) Woods of Lincoln, IL, Todd (Shelley) Spellman
of Lincoln, IL, Angela (Andy) Jones of Keokuk, IA,
and Rob (Wendy) Monical of McPherson, KS; eight
great grandsons and three great granddaughters; two
brothers, Paul Protsman and George Protsman; two
sisters, Edna Hackney and Rosetta Schneider.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
two brothers Frank and Joe and one sister Mamie.
The family will be meeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00
PM, Sunday, April 21, 2013 at DeJong-Greaves
Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street in
Keokuk.
A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 PM Monday,
April 22, 2013, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of
Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk with
Chuck Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in
Keokuk National Cemetery.

for patients.
