Mount Pulaski High School FCCLA students leave their mark
at state conference

Mount Pulaski High School FCCLA students attend the state conference and "Leave Their Mark."

The 2013 Illinois Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Conference was held  in Springfield last weekend, April 18-20.

The theme for this year's conference was "Leave Your Mark," and 12 students from MPHS did just that. The students competed and were judged in various events on Friday and also had the opportunity to attend workshops that day.

On Saturday participants were awarded medals in a ceremony at the Prairie Capital Convention Center. Students from MPHS earning medals were:

State proficiency events:
Devin Jones -- silver -- public speaking, creed

Star events:
Cady Lowery and Jordan Luczaj -- silver -- Chapter Showcase Manual -- national delegates
Stephanie Bailey and Hannah Skaggs -- gold -- Chapter Service Manual
Chelsea Siembida -- silver -- nutrition and wellness -- national delegate
Caleb Coppinger, Brady Coppinger, Max Coppinger, Trenton Trump, Max VanRheeden and Clayton Lindley -- silver -- parliamentary procedure

Lowery, Luczaj and Siembida were named national delegates and will attend the 2013 FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., July 7-11.

The Mount Pulaski FCCLA chapter adviser is Wyatt Waterkotte. Mount Pulaski's FCCLA (formerly known as FHA) is the second-longest running chapter in the country. The chapter was started in 1951.
