Jim Dreyer is hauling two dinghies bearing 334 bricks weighing more than 2,000 pounds.
Dreyer had said he expected to finish Tuesday after about 30 hours in the water. But an online tracking system showed him with roughly a quarter of the way to go on Wednesday morning, just off the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe.
A posting on his Facebook page says it's not clear how long the swim now will take. He began Monday morning and plans to end in Detroit.
Dreyer has made direct crossings of the five Great Lakes. He's raising money for Habitat for Humanity.
