The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced the gala selection Thursday for its 51st festival. The film stars Joaquin (wah-KEEN') Phoenix as a Los Angeles man who, in the near future, becomes intrigued with a new operating system voiced by Scarlett Johansson. Warner Bros. will release the film from the "Being John Malkovich" director on Nov. 20.
"Her" marks the third high-profile fall release that will premiere at the New York Film Festival. Lincoln Center earlier announced that Paul Greengrass's "Captain Phillips," starring Tom Hanks, will open the festival, and that Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" will be the centerpiece.
The festival runs Sept. 27 through Oct. 13.
