Opal Irene Rodman, 88, of Atlanta, IL died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, IL.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Chestnut, IL. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rachel Steckle officiating. Burial will take place at the Laenna Cemetery in Chestnut, IL. Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln has been entrusted with her care.

Mrs. Rodman was born September 27, 1924 in Shelby County, IL. She was the daughter of C. Walter and Myrtle (Gaston) Jones. She married Vernon "Wayne" Rodman on October 27, 1946 in Shelby County, IL.

She was the mother of Carol Ann (Wes) McCoy of Champaign, IL and Martha Irene (Dean) Sasse of Atlanta, IL. In addition to her husband and children she is survived by her grandchildren Diedra (John) Stewart of Mt. Pulaski, IL; Kurtis Cowgur of Camby, IN; Heather (Scott) Martin of Atlanta, IL; and Allen (Heather) Sasse of Beason, IL. Her great grandchildren include Emma, William, and Paige Stewart; Chloe and Corinne Cowgur; Lauren, Erin, and Jordyn Turner; and Tyler and Peyton Sasse. Her brother William Charles (Carol) Jones of Lincoln and several nieces and nephews as well as special friends Shirley and Carl Jones of Lincoln also survive.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters: Victor Jones, Maurice Jones, Juanita Camic, Rose Jones, Pauline Winings, Wanda Steele, Marie Jones, and Jean Rawlings.

Opal Rodman was a member of the United Methodist Church, Chestnut, IL where she served with the WSCS women’s organization. She was also a member of the Lin-Pro square dance club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the "Ding-a-Lings" Kitchen Band of Chestnut, IL. Above all she was a homemaker. She loved to cook and she baked every day. She was the Matriarch of the family and always made sure everyone was taken care of. She enjoyed working in the yard and gardening. She previously worked at the Stetson China Factory, Lincoln, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to Chestnut United Methodist Church or Mason City (IL) Nursing Home Activity Department and will be received at Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home, Lincoln, IL.
