Ill. mother accused of breaking infant's ribs, leg

[December 03, 2013]  BELLEVILLE (AP) — A southwestern Illinois woman is jailed on $500,000 bond after being accused of abusing her 7-week-old baby boy, causing him to sustain broken ribs and a fractured leg.

Prosecutors in St. Clair County charged 22-year-old Che Watson of Fairview Heights with two counts of aggravated battery of a child.

Authorities say that on Nov. 24, police were called by state child-welfare officials to investigate injuries sustained by a baby boy being treated at a St. Louis hospital.

Investigators say the boy was later released to the custody of unspecified relatives.

Online court records don't show whether Watson has an attorney. Calls on Monday to Watson's home went unanswered.
