Lady Wolverines take regional championship

[December 09, 2013]  The eighth-grade West Lincoln-Broadwell Lady Wolverines won two games in IESA Class 7-1A postseason play to clinch the 2013 regional championship and move on to the sectional championship versus Mount Pulaski at Atwood-Hammond on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

In the first game of regionals, the Lady Wolverines defeated Springfield Calvary 74-14.

Kaelyn Froebe led all scorers with 25 points. Kennedy Lolling contributed offensively with 14 as did Ali Wilson with seven, and Leah Schneider and Morgan Lolling added six points each.

Autumn Hoffert and Ali Wilson led on the boards with four rebounds each. Haley Hicks used her speed and picked up six steals.

With the win, the Lady Wolverines moved to the regional championship versus their tough opponent Springfield Little Flower. The Wolverines and Little Flower have had a history, as both teams placed in state last year.

The regional championship game started off with a bang as the Lady Wolverines took a 10-1 lead. Little Flower fought back, and by halftime the score was 21-15.

The Lady Wolverines had an explosive third quarter when they outscored Little Flower 13-4. The Lady Wolverines never looked back as they went on to defeat Little Flower and seize a back-to-back regional championship by a score of 39-26.

Kaelyn Froebe led all scorers with 15 points as Emma Konczyk contributed with seven, and Morgan Lolling and Emerie Wieber both had four.

Froebe also led on the boards with seven as Emma Konczyk, Morgan Lolling, Autumn Hoffert and Emerie Wieber each had five boards. Kaelyn Froebe, Haley Hicks, Morgan Lolling and Kennedy Lolling all contributed defensively with three steals each.
