SPRINGFIELD — A film festival
focusing on the nation's food industry and how we can create a
healthier, cleaner and more sustainable world is planned for Jan. 25
at the Benedictine University Library, 1500 N. Fifth St. in
Springfield.

Slow Food Springfield, the University of Illinois Extension and the
Green Club at Benedictine University are partnering to present the
fifth annual Slow Food Springfield Film Festival. "These films
tell the stories behind our food and can increase awareness and
interest in our food system," said Deborah Cavanaugh-Grant, who is a
University of Illinois Extension educator on local food systems and
small farms and is chairing the festival.
Dr. Julia Leischner, adviser for Benedictine's Green Club, said:
"This is such a great opportunity for our students. We are pleased
to be a part of creating awareness of sustainability and the
numerous environmental, economic, and health benefits from
supporting local food producers."
The festival will feature five films from 2 to 8:30 p.m. in the
Presidents' Room auditorium and adjoining classroom at Benedictine
Library. Film titles and descriptions will be announced in January.
