Dianne Noland to speak at Russel Allen Garden Day

[February 04, 2013]  The Logan County Master Gardeners with the University of Illinois Extension program will host Russel Allen Garden Day on March 9 at the Meyers-Evans Student Center at Lincoln College. The public is invited for this event that will feature various presentations related to gardening, as well as displays by area plant and gardening societies.

The day is in honor of Russel Allen, a charter member of the Logan County Master Gardener volunteer program.

Registration will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m., and sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Keynote speaker for the event is Dianne Noland on the topic of "Great Perennial Combinations."

Noland is the hostess and producer of "Illinois Gardener," a weekly gardening show filmed at Urbana's local PBS television station, WILL-TV.

Other presenters and session topics are "Container Gardens," with Anne and Lee Niepagen, owners of Niepagen Greenhouses; "Herb Basics and Beyond," with Karen Lowery; "Horticulture Happenings at the Illinois Executive Mansion," with Harry Lewis, gardener at the executive mansion in Springfield; "Natural Planting Plan for Spring," with Dennis Campbell; "Cooking with Herbs," with Bill Turney; and "Hummingbirds," with Jan Sickbert.
