Goodyear and its French rival Michelin on Tuesday both reported profits in 2012 but said they were hurt by Europe's slowdown. Goodyear, which reported profit of $183 million, said Europe is dragging down the tire maker's outlook for 2013. Michelin said its workforce shrank from 115,000 a year ago to 113,400 today. It credited emerging markets and high margins on specialty tires for boosting 2012 profit to (EURO)1.57 billion ($2.11 billion).
