Theater group to present water education play to Zion Lutheran students Wednesday

[February 19, 2013]  Illinois American Water and The National Theatre for Children, based in Minneapolis, Minn., will bring the live theatrical show "Search for the Fountain Mountain" to elementary students in the water company's Lincoln District. This is part of the company's education program for children and is offered to local schools free of charge. A performance is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran School, 1600 Woodlawn Road.

The 25-minute shows share information with students in a fun and interactive way to help them learn about water conservation and preventing pollution.

"By presenting a wise water use message through entertainment, we are able to teach children about good environmental practices in a way they can relate (to) and enjoy. This program teaches children important ways to protect and conserve one of nature's most valuable resources," said Dave Schonauer, operations superintendent for Illinois American Water's Lincoln District.

The National Theatre for Children, a Minnesota-based national touring company, uses simple sets and audience participation to teach children about the importance of water. The troupe will present the shows to thousands of students in Illinois American Water's service areas. The shows are supplemented with classroom materials that teachers can use with their students.
