[January 08, 2013]  Lincoln Mayor Keith Snyder appointed Bruce Carmitchel, former school board president for Lincoln Elementary District 27, to the Lincoln City Council Monday evening, filling the vacancy created by the death of Alderman Orville "Buzz" Busby. The city council confirmed the appointment.

Carmitchel, of 326 Water St., served 10 years on the District 27 board, seven of those years as its president. He is employed as a senior metropolitan planning manager with the Illinois Department of Transportation. He has had a long career at IDOT and previously worked at Walgreens, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Eaton, Country Companies and Havana Junior High School.

Carmitchel graduated from Kankakee Eastridge High School in Kankakee and holds a bachelor's degree from Illinois State University.

Mayor Snyder stated: "I am pleased that Bruce was interested in serving the city of Lincoln and the people of the 4th Ward. He served the people of Lincoln well on the District 27 school board. Given his strong background and experience, he'll be an excellent addition to the city council."
