American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 sponsors Americanism essay contest

[January 14, 2013]  American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 will again sponsor the Illinois Americanism essay contest, entitled "What does the First Amendment mean to me." All Illinois school students in the seventh and eighth grades, ninth and 10th grades, and 11th and 12th grades are invited to participate in this contest. Home-schooled students will compete at their own grade level according to age.

Monetary awards will be given to winners. Class I, seventh- and eighth-graders, will be awarded $100 to $200 on the state level; Class II, ninth- and 10th-graders, will be awarded $100 to $200; and Class III, 11th- and 12th-graders, will receive a scholarship of $300 to $1,200 on the state level. Monetary awards are also given on the unit and district level.

Lincoln Auxiliary Unit 263 will award $20 to each class winner, $15 to second-place winners and $10 to third-place winners.

Winning essays will be forwarded to district for judging.
