After John Blackburn spoke, the Rev. Glenn Shelton
took the podium, offering a morning prayer before introducing the
youth choir of the Second Baptist Church in Lincoln.
The young people performed two pieces, "He's a
Mighty God" and 'My God Is Awesome."
Debbie Ackerman then took the stand to
introduce Edraniel Tookes, the 2012 recipient of the scholarship.
Ackerman also took a
moment to acknowledge the committee she serves on and all the
volunteers who help make the breakfast a success.
When Tookes (pictured above) took the podium,
she talked about her decision to come to Lincoln College. As a
graduate of Lincoln Community High School, she said that Lincoln
College was not initially in her plan, but her mind was changed when
she was approached to come play basketball with the Lady Lynx.
Tookes told the group that their money had not
been wasted on her. She is studying business and accounting
and carried a 4.0 GPA in her first semester. She plans to
complete her LC education and transfer to the University of Illinois,
where she will continue pursuing a master's degree in accounting
When Tookes finished speaking, the Lincoln
College Choir took to the risers and sang "Wade in the Water."
