[July 03, 2013]  Lincoln Park District will be a busy place on the Fourth of July.

The day starts out with the free eighth annual Old-Fashioned Children's Walking Parade. Join the group at Scully Park to preregister any time after 9 a.m. The parade will line up and step off promptly at 10 a.m. A fire truck will lead the parade to the Lincoln Park District grounds on Primm Road.

Decorate tricycles, bicycles, strollers, scooters and wagons for the occasion. Walk, rollerblade or ride a skateboard. No motorized vehicles are permitted, although wheelchairs will be allowed. Leashed dogs are welcome, too. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children on the parade route, which begins at Scully Park, at McLean and Decatur streets.

For more information, contact the Lincoln Park District at 732-8770.

After the parade, prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories. Be sure to stick around for a water fight with the fire department. The park district will provide water balloons and the fire department will have the hydrant and hoses. Everyone is guaranteed to get soaked!

In the evening on the Fourth, the park district will have a DJ playing a great selection of music. Lincoln Land Catering will have a wide selection of food choices. Corn dogs, brats, walking tacos and lemonade shake-ups are just a few of the Americana menu offerings.

The park district will also offer an open play bags game for anyone interested in playing. If there is enough interest, the organizers may even put together a quick tournament. Play will start at 7 p.m. near the concession stand.

Fireworks will start at dusk, with the American Legion color guard having a presentation, too.
