State fair to bring back Cheer Classic

[July 05, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- Grab your pompoms and get your spirit fingers ready; the Illinois State Fair Cheer Classic is back! It has been years since a cheerleading competition at the state fair, but this year Capital Elite has been asked to help bring this great tradition to the fair once again. The Cheer Classic will take place Aug. 17 in Happy Hollow.
Rain date is Aug. 18. In the event of rain cancellation, application fees will be refunded.

Guests must pay entry to the fair, but the Cheer Classic is free to all spectators.

The competition area is a 54-by-42 spring floor, and a warm-up area will be provided with a 54-by-42 non-spring floor, a spring tumble strip and a 12-by-42 stretch mat.

Three divisions are offered: School, All Star and Specialty. Each division is divided into several age categories.

School categories:

  • Elementary

  • Junior high

  • High school JV

  • High school varsity
    (maximum 20 members)

  • JV and varsity combined
    (maximum 36 members)

All Star age groups:

  • Tiny Level 1

  • Mini Levels 1-3

  • Youth Levels 1-5

  • Junior Levels 1-5

  • Senior Levels 1-5

The Specialty Division will be divided based on USASF age divisions. It includes seven competitions:

  • Individual routine

  • Duo routine

  • Trio routine

  • Quad routine

  • Stunt routine

  • Jump challenge

  • Tumbling challenge

Each team must send a $100 nonrefundable deposit by July 15. The cost of entry is $30 per cheerleader, which includes admission to the state fair. An additional $20 will be charged per added event, which includes all Specialty Division competitions.

Banners will be given to the grand champions of all levels of the team divisions. Trophies will be given to the first-, second- and third-place teams as well as the competitors in the Specialty Division. All team and squad participants will receive a medal.

The registration deadline is July 15, including the registration form and nonrefundable deposit. Full payment must be received by Aug. 1. Registration forms can be emailed to cheerisf2013@ymail.com.
