Maxine H. Smith, 93, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at
2:50 p.m. at her home.

LINCOLN-Maxine H. Smith, 93, of Lincoln died at her
home at 2:50 p.m. July 17, 2013.
Maxine was born June 1, 1920 in LaHarpe, IL the
daughter of William and Tacy Gaumer Johnson. She
married Ray "Bob" Zbinden, Sr. March 25, 1950 in
Onarga, IL. He preceded her in death February 22,
1981. She married Owen Hopkins in 1982 and he
preceded her in 1987.
She is survived by children: Sandy (John) Russell of
Lincoln; Myrna (Bill) Bair of Riverside, PA; Ray
(Deborah) Zbinden of St. Joseph, IL; five
grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and her
four legged friend Gizmo. She was preceded in death
by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Maxine retired as an Administrative Secretary at the
University of Illinois. She was also Secretary of
Central Illinois Mayors Association; and Secretary
for the City Manager of Champaign.
Graveside services for Maxine will be at 11:00 a.m.
Monday, July 22, 2013 at Cissna Park Cemetery with
Rev. Greg Wooten officiating. Memorials may be given
to Safe Haven Hospice. Services were entrusted to
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
