Elsie Menzel

[July 22, 2013]  LINCOLN -- Elsie K. Menzel, 91, of Lincoln, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 12:57 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Lincoln- Elsie K. Menzel, 91, of Lincoln passed away at 12:57 P.M. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Elsie was born on October 30, 1921, daughter of William August and Katherine Amelia Horn Komnick in Emden, IL. She was united in marriage to Julian Menzel at Elkhart on November 9, 1947. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2010.

Elsie attended Emden elementary and high school, graduating from Hartsburg High School and Lincoln College. She worked as a secretary to County Judge and several local attorneys, as well as Probation Officer and a number of years in “Admissions” at Lincoln College. Elsie served on the Foundation Board of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Community Concert Board, St. John UCC council and various community organizations. She was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary, and Nature Conservancy as well as several local organizations.

Survivors to Elsie include her brother: Thomas E. (Dorothy) Komnick of Emden, IL; nephews: Richard A. Smith of Dunedin, FL; David (Linda) Smith of Clearwater, FL; Lee (Mari Anne) Komnick of Lincoln, IL; Katharine S. (Andrew) Frontiero of Dunedin, FL; Barbara J. Smith of Chattanooga, TN; David (Patricia) Menzel of Springfield, IL; Harry Earle (Jean) Menzel of Kankakee, IL; Michael (Marsha) Menzel of Williamsville, IL; and Scott (Wendy) Menzel of Louisville, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marjorie A. Smith.

Services for Elsie will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at St. John United Church of Christ with Rev. Jan Johnson and Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 P.M on Tuesday, July 23 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln and an hour before the service on Wednesday. A burial will follow the service at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart. She preferred flowers or donations be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria or to the St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln.
